Cangshan Gr

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Late Sinian (late Ediacaran), Pt2-3 (35-a)

Province:
Yunnan

Type Locality and Naming

Dali region, northern West Yunnan. The Cangshan Gr was named by the Team of Metamorphic Rock, Yunnan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1962. The typical section is located around Diancang to Luoping Mountains in Dali-Xiaguan district, Yunnan Province.

Synonym: (苍山群)

Lithology and Thickness

It is dominantly composed of schist, gneiss, leptite and minor marble. Lower part, Hedi Fm, is composed of biotite hornblende plagio-granulite, monzonitic ophthalmite and granite-gneiss intercalated with marble, graphitic schist and hornblende schist. The protoliths were mainly pelitic clastic rock with volcanic rock. The upper part of Shuangyangfeng Fm is dominated by various leptite, intercalated with a lot of marble and actinolite-schist (of which the chemical composition is similar to basic rock), whose protoliths were an assemblage of clastic rock, carbonate rock and volcanic rock. The total thickness is more than 2000 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Claystone

Regional extent

Dali region, northern West Yunnan. The Cangshan Gr is exposed on the west of Erhai Lake in Dali (Yunnan Province), south from Xiaguan, northward to Eryuan, and westward to near Yangbi and Qiaohou, The Cangshan Gr of upper Sinian that is distributed in the area of Diancang mountains-Luopingshan of Dali City, Yunnan Province, is possibly equivalent to the Along Fm of the Ailaoshan Gr.

Age

Late Sinian (late Ediacaran) on schematic stratigraphic column. Note: see comments on age of Ailaoshan Gr, for which the presumed "coeval" upper part (typically assigned to upper Sinian) might be Ordovician-Silurian in its depositional age.
